CEO'S MESSAGE

Sunday, 20 September 2009 by Luke Simon, CEO and Principal

Welcome to Term 4, our last term for 2009. How time flies and what an extraordinary year we have had both here at the College and across the globe. The College continues to strive for excellence in its courses, its systems and its premises with our latest improvement being the installation of a wheelchair lift for those in the community who need assistance to access our College. This chair lift has been made possible with funding from the Department of Community Services. We greatly appreciate this funding support which will now improve equity and access to education for many of our friends and family in our community. The chair lift has been a long work-in-progress and I am very proud that the outcome is so positive.

On another note, I would like to inform you that the College runs courses in good faith, especially general interest courses; that is, if the minimum enrolment has been reached then the course is given the go-ahead. Often, the College runs courses with only a handful of students so as not to disappoint the community. However, if just one person withdraws or asks for a transfer or a refund the College often finds it has consequently conducted that course at a loss. We suffer a loss too if someone withdraws from a popular or soldout course as their place cannot be replaced at short notice and the College again suffers the financial loss. Please consider the above before asking for a refund or a transfer especially after a course has commenced. It is very difficult to offer your spot in a course to another student a day before a course is due to start or after the course has started.

Please be sure to check out our web site regularly for our latest news including news on new VET courses for Term 1 in 2010. We hope to add 5 new courses/ qualifications to our VETAB scope of registration. Stay tuned for more details as they come to hand.

As this is our last brochure for 2009 I would like to thank everyone in the community who has supported the College in 2009: our students, our suppliers, our business partners, our volunteer College Council members and of course our dedicated staff across all departments.

May you all have a Merry Christmas and a lovely summer break. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, prosperous and healthy 2010!
