RPL and RCC - Recognition of Prior Learning and Recognition of Current Competency

This information may be helpful to students who have completed relevant formal study and/or who can demonstrate that they currently have the prerequisite skills and knowledge in certain areas which may qualify them to seek RPL or RCC.

The first step is to prepare an Evidence Portfolio which typically may include:

  • an up-to-date CV, listing all relevant work experience, dates you held each position, your typical work duties and areas of responsibility;
  • your current or recent Job Description as verified by your Employment Contract, references from: employers, clients, students, other authorities;
  • your training background;
  • your formal qualifications, including high school results, TAFE studies, university studies and/or studies completed at VETAB-accredited Registered Training Organisations. Students with qualifications gained overseas must present officially translated documents and proof of Australian equivalency from the relevant Australian authority / professional body / professional association;
  • certificates of participation in professional development or short courses relevant to your intended field of VET study;
  • OH & S checklists you have used/followed/created, or attendance at OH & S workshops seminars;
  • any other evidence (visual or written) which can be used to seek RPL/RCC.

Once you have gathered the above, please contact the College to make an appointment to have an initial discussion with the CEO and/or a Co-ordinating Trainer. The College will then contact you within 7 business days to either seek more information or to inform you if you qualify for RPL/RCC in some of the Units of Competency or the Qualification.

Cost will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Generally, RPL for each Unit of Competency will incur a fee of $160 plus an administration fee of $150. It remains the applicant's responsibility to go through the Range Statements and Performance Criteria for the particular Unit of Competency and then collate a portfolio, which meets the demands of these. As each RPL/RCC application will be considered on its individual merits, the College cannot advise you of the fee you will be charged until it has carefully considered your Evidence Portfolio.
