Cake Decorating - Beginners

This course introduces participants to the basic skills of cake decorating and sugar art. Our professional cake decorator will show you techniques related to decorating plaques, piping skills making royal icing, covering a cake with fondant and the use of modelling paste to make flowers and ornaments. Participants may need to buy some materials - your tutor will outline these during the first session..

Important things to know: A kit will need to be purchased, for future lessons, some of which will be available from the teacher.
Course outline:
- Week 1 - Introduction and Course Outline, bring pen and paper first session, 1 bag of PURE icing sugar, a fine sieve, one egg, a small bowl and a new wooden spoon, a roll of baking paper, dishcloth, apron, tea towel
- Week 2 - Bring baking paper, acetic acid, piping tubes, piping bag, board for practice, made royal icing, colours, a nail.
- Week 3 - Same as week 2.
- Week 4 - Bring royal icing, tubes, bags, 1 pack of ready made icing, cookie cutters, 6-12 cupcakes, chocolate ganache.
- Week 5 - Bring A plaque made from ready icing, royal icing, colours, glad baking paper, piping bags, tubes.
- Week 6 - Bring royal icing, colours, few paint brushes, plaques.
- Week 7 - Same as week 6.
- Week 8 - A cake [8-10 inch], ready made icing, apricot jam, colours, cake board, royal icing, piping tubes and bags, ribbons.
Cake Decorating - Intermediate

This course is suitable for creative cake-makers who may have completed a beginners cake-decorating course. The course is presented in two sessions: the first session will focus on making sugar flowers and the second on decorating wedding cakes. Participants may need to buy some materials ? your tutor will advise during the first session.
