Computers for Anyone - Stage 2
From ICA10105 Certificate I in Information Technology
Unit of competency:
ICAU1129B Operate a word processing application
This sixteen-hour course is suitable for anyone who has completed Stage 1 or a similar course elsewhere, or for anyone who would like to expand their knowledge and develop their computing skills. This course may also be useful as a refresher course if you have not used a personal computer for some time. Students can choose whether they wish to be assessed or not. The following topics will be covered:
* Review of Stage 1 (Introduction to Using a Computer)
* Developing Word processing skills with Microsoft Office (Word)
* File management (create, delete, rename, move, cut, paste and copy a folder)
* Printing
* Web browsing (Internet Explorer)
Create an Electronic Photo Album
This course is suitable for those who have recently bought a digital camera and who wish to learn to make better use of their camera’s digital capabilities. Aspects covered include: transferring shots to your home computer, burning to a CD and of course, printing.
Bring your own camera and personal computer connection cables.
Email and the Internet
This course will teach participants the basics of how to create an e-mail account; and how to open, read, save, organise and respond to email messages. You will also learn how to find information using both the Google and Yahoo! search engines; how to download documents and forms of interest to you. The course trainer will demonstrate how to print online pages (television, travel and lifestyle show factsheets; travel schedules; timetables; recipes; maps, etc.).
A basic knowledge of using a personal computer is necessary.
Excel for Beginners (MS Excel 2007)
This accredited course is a general introduction to very simple Excel which covers keyboard practices, computer terminology and basic operating procedures.
Excel Intermediate (MS Excel 2007)
This intensive course has been designed for anyone who already uses Excel at work and who acknowledges that their Excel skills need updating.
Participants will learn to create and practise useful formulas for budgets, using labels and names in formulas, using absolute and relative referencing in formulas, logical formulas (IF, AND, OR, NOT), working with different functions, creating simple charts, selecting ranges, filling a series and using Excel for record-keeping and human resources purposes such as maintaining staff entitlements.
Some basic knowledge of Excel is required. This course is ideal for those who have at minimum already completed a basic introductory Excel course such as the College’s Weekend Excel workshop and/or who use Excel daily in their work.
Mac Computer Course for Beginners
If you have recently bought a beautiful new Mac personal computer or laptop and you would like to learn all the amazing things it can do, this course would be ideal for you. Your trainer will take you through all the features of the latest Mac operating system, Snow Leopard. The following topics will be covered:
* Introduction to a Mac computer and its parts. [What are they? How do they interact? Basic connections, Terminology]
* Maintenance and basic care
* Getting into your computer

Microsoft Office 2007 Computer Package

This accredited course will provide you with a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 2007 Package, which includes Word, Excel and Outlook. Moreover it will assist you to practise each of the applications and become more confident in using them. Dedicated learning exercises will allow you practical opportunities to practise this software. You will work on basic business documents and texts as well as introductory spreadsheets and graphs. There will also be a focus on electronic communication (e-mail), and scheduling (calendar) task reminders within Outlook. It is assumed that you would have completed a basic Introduction to Computers course, such as the College’s Computers for Anyone Stage 4 course before joining this class. You must also be able to navigate the Windows environment.
Microsoft Office 2007 Computer Package Advanced

This course is only suitable for capable users, such as students who have successfully completed the College’s Microsoft Office Computer Package, employees working in administration roles or people who use computers on a daily basis for work or pleasure. It takes students to the next level, offering Statements of Attainments in a higher qualification (Certificate III in Business Administration). Whilst the focus remains on producing business and text documents (Word), creating spreadsheets (Excel) and electronic presentations (PowerPoint), the performance criteria are much higher before a student is found Competent. Students will have to demonstrate that their work output is at the level required to meet the qualification’s standards.
PowerPoint 2007
From BSB30407 Certificate III in Business Administration
BSBITU302A Create electronic presentations
This course has been specifically designed for clients who have completed the College’s Microsoft Office 2007 Computer Package course (or equivalent) and who wish to develop their PowerPoint skills and knowledge further. The course will start the week after the Package course concludes to allow students the opportunity to focus on PowerPoint.
The trainer will take you through simple auto-content and manually-created presentations, before highlighting all the different capabilities of the PowerPoint application, including all the options available to users who prefer to design their own tailored-made electronic presentations, such as: custom diagrams, charts, colour schemes, fill-effects, drawing toolbars and many more. The class will also learn how to create different types of presentations, including speaker-supported, self-running, interactive and ‘booklet’ presentations. One aspect of the course will include explanations of relevant terms within the PowerPoint application. Whilst the course curriculum has been authored mainly to appeal to clients wishing to pursue their PowerPoint skills for work purposes it will also appeal to those seeking to advance their PowerPoint skills for personal use.
School Administration Procedures and OASIS Training
This 8-session course facilitated by an experienced public school administrator is designed for people requiring skills in OASIS to enhance their employment opportunities in a school-based administration position. It is also suitable for people currently employed as school assistants and wishing to enhance their OASIS knowledge. Topics covered include: enrolling students, student and staff data entry, absences, printing of rolls, look-up tables, chart of accounts, receipting/banking, ordering, payment of accounts, monthly reconciliations, business activity statements, mail merge - letters, envelopes and labels, mail merge exporting information from OASIS, enhancing school newsletters, importing photos and graphics and creating watermarks and preparing for an interview. The course includes ERN integration and offers guided simulated practice.This course also includes the Unit of Competency ICAU1129B Operate a word processing application. Students assessed as Competent will receive a nationally-recognised Statement of Attainment in this unit from the ICA10105 Certificate I in Information Technology.
Word Processing for Beginners (MS Word 2007)
This course is suitable for anyone working (or hoping to work) in an administrative capacity in an office, academic institution or organisation, needing to be proficient at word-processing documents as part of their duties.
Participants will learn what is required for the entering, editing and formatting of text and will learn how to better use tools such as outlining, tables and footnotes. The course trainer will also assist you to create and work with graphics such as simple charts and clip art and how to modify pictures and drawings. Other aspects covered include the use of merge functions, styles, tabs, templates as well as handy keyboard shortcuts.
Please note this is an accredited course and participants will be assessed against the relevant performance criteria. A participant can choose whether he/she wishes to be formally assessed.
Word Processing Intermediate (MS Word 2007)
This nationally-accredited course is ideal for those who already have some word processing skills but who wish to formalise their knowledge and at the same time gain some new skills to improve their computing skills.
Our skilled trainer will patiently take you through some of the new shortcuts and functions of Word 2007, demonstrating what you can do effectively on a computer. The course involves practice and is definitely a hands-on course!
Each student is allocated a computer and keypad in our computer lab so there is no need to share or look on as somebody else practises.
