Cake Decorating Beginners

This course introduces participants to the basic skills of cake decorating and sugar art. Our professional cake decorator will show you techniques related to decorating plaques, piping skills making royal icing, covering a cake with fondant and the use of modelling paste to make flowers and ornaments. Participants may need to buy some materials - your tutor will outline these during the first session.

Cake Decorating Intermediate

This course is suitable for creative cake-makers who may have completed a beginners cake-decorating course. The course is presented in two parts: the first part will focus on making sugar flowers and the second on decorating wedding cakes. Participants may need to buy some materials - your tutor will advise during the first session.

Cupcake Decorating for Beginners

Due to popular demand the College is introducing this new one-day workshop suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their cupcake decorating skills. Our tutor will show you a number of easy and beautiful ways to decorate your cupcakes in this hands-on 4-hour class. All you need to bring along with you are your already baked cupcakes, and the required course materials below.

Required Course Materials:
12 Cupcakes (pre-made)
2 packets of ready-made icing
3 teaspoons of apricot jam
100 grams of dark cooking chocolate
100 ml of thickened cream
50 grams of icing sugar

Required Equipment:
Apron
Cookie cutters
Cake box to carry cupcakes
Dishcloth
Rolling pin
Small ribbons
Small bowl
Small saucepan

Cupcake Decorating Workshop

This one-day workshop will introduce you to the different techniques used to decorate cupcakes. Some of these techniques will include piped butter icing and rolled fondant. The tutor will show you how to use various sugar art decorations such as flowers, bows, handbags, shoes, and animals to make your cupcakes stand out. This course is aimed at beginners or those with limited experience in cake decorating.

Please bring the following:
12 cupcakes
Butter icing
Fondant icing
Royal icing
Cutters
Piping bags and tubes
Food colours of your choice
Modelling tools
Cookie cutters.
Some of these items will be available for purchase from the teacher on the day.

Flower Arrangement for Beginners

This new course conducted by a professional florist will teach you the art of flower-arrangement, and assist you to decorate your home with flowers for any special occasion. Be the envy of your family and friends with your unique and expert flower arrangements, beautifying your home and offering you and your loved ones a world of beauty in a vase. You will learn to make a corsage, various table arrangements, and bouquets.

You need a pair of flower scissors for the first session. Your tutor will explain in the first session what other materials you may need for each of the sessions. All flowers will be supplied by the College.

This new advanced-level course is for students who have either completed the College’s intermediate-level photography course or for those who have a solid understanding of photography principles and skills. The tutor, a professional photographer, will assist you to produce a portfolio of work in your area of interest.

Photography for Beginners

This is the ideal course for you if you want to develop a practical understanding of the photographic medium. Our tutor will cover the following aspects: foundations of photography such as exposure, navigating the features of a camera, lenses, different films, filters and the use of flash.

Participants are encouraged to bring along their own SLR or digital SLR 35 mm camera and owner’s manual. This popular class is limited to 15 participants. (NO COMPACT POINT AND SHOOT CAMERAS)

Photography Intermediate

If you have completed a beginners’ photography course and are keen to develop your skills further this course is a must. Our tutor will guide you to build on your existing creativity and improve your technical expertise. The course will focus on: portraiture, landscape, action/sports, still life, travel and documentary. Theoretical classroom will be supplemented with two weekend shoots (early morning and a twilight session).
This course requires participants to have access to an SLR/digital SLR 35 mm camera (NO COMPACT POINT AND SHOOT CAMERAS).

Scrapbook It Your Way

Discover the art of Scrapbooking and learn techniques of presenting your best-loved photographs in a way which will be the envy of all your family and friends. Our experienced tutor will show you ways to present your personal memories using a variety of shapes (e. g. round, oval, geometrical, hexagonal) using a guillotine to trim photographs as well as show you material you can use to decorate or highlight your photographs. The main tools used are stencils shaped in a variety of ways. In this way, photographs can be interlocked and the page remains light with clean classy lines. Any decorations simply enhance the photographs not dominate.

The main objective of our Scrapbooking workshop is to assist you to enhance the presentation of your most loved photographs so that each time you and your family look at them your memory will recall with pride and joy your perfect wedding day, the birth of your child, that trip of a lifetime or that special occasion. The photographs and their content guide the layout and determine the page decoration.

All materials will be provided - you will simply need to bring along to the class 18-30 of your favourite photographs. These will need to have the same theme, for example, 'Our Wedding' or 'My Daughter's 21st', etc. Class size is restricted to 10 to ensure personal attention for each participant.
